Onergy, VSSU join hands for solar station in South 24-Parganas

A solar power station — Vivekananda Shakti Kendra — has been set up at Ullon near Lakshmikantapur in South 24-Parganas. The project is a joint venture of Onergy, a brainchild of environmental entrepreneur Vinay Jaju, and the Vivekananda Sevakendra-O-Sishu Uddyan.

Another station is set to come up at Pathar Pratima in the Sunderbans. Along with solar lamps, the stations will also offer mobile recharging facilities. “Seventy eight per cent households in South 24 Parganas villages use kerosene for lighting and 79 per cent of the families don’t have access to electricity. Most of these people have mobile phones, but no facilities to charge them,” explains Jaju.
